The secret weapon that professional charter boat captains use most successfully are Birds. TKO Birds and Squids are both proven to attract large predator game fish by simulating a school of bait. The internal beads produce a clicking sound to simulate bait involved in a feeding frenzy. Bird Series lures produce tremendous splashing action and troll at 4-12 knots. Each TKO Big Bird lure contains:
A crystal clear resin body made with the highest quality water clear resin; a lure head prism covering, which produces a stronger 3D silhouette - the solid reflective glitter effect gives a unique design feature; two eyes that are moveable and internal for a more lifelike appearance; and a microfiber polishing cloth that helps the lures maintain a high luster. Use the TKO Big Bird as a single lure or in a daisy chain, in front of or behind a spreader bar or daisy chain, or as a weighted dredge teaser with quick connect rigging or on an outrigger.
Illustrating an illusion of feeding frenzies is paramount for successful offshore trolling. Vibration from combined splashing and swimming motions provokes instinctive strikes. Birds create surface illusions at slow to moderate trolling speeds of 10-12 knots. Birds in front of a spreader bar or daisy chain provide a water steering effect. With an adjustable rudder you can make it pull in or out. If it catches a wave wrong and goes under, it will correct itself and return to the surface. With some practice, the Bird with Hook (diagram 1) can be run from an out-rod positioned at the Bow. Troll 20 ft behind the stem in between outriggers and flat line baits (diagram 2).
