TKO Offshore Lures by Gulf Coast Charter Adventures

By: CAM Staff

Sound - which travels five times faster underwater than it does in the air - is an important trigger in the feeding mechanisms of feeding fish. And TKO Offshore Lures knows this. Their line of lures - featuring the Bluewater, Tournament, and Magnum series - have been specifically designed with bioacoustics in mind.

Feeding fish attract predator fish and make a specific sound when they crunch their prey. When trying to catch fish, your lure should mimic these sounds. And while fish generally hear low-frequency sounds better than high-frequency sounds, higher frequencies tend to work better when fishing deeper, clear-water conditions.

That’s why TKO Lures uses brass weights that have glass beads and lure heads that have steel beads. Together, this creates both high- and low-frequency sounds. So, it’s a sure bet that fish will hear your TKO Lure.

The aerator cap on all TKO Lures is adjustable, and TKO developer Jack Farr says great results can be found by moving the aerator cap two to four inches forward with a small clip weight behind it. This allows the inlaid chrome font to reflect light and a wider spread of bubbles to form around the lure, but it doesn’t block the view from the fish.

On the four-inch Magnum, you'll definitely want to use the brass weight, but the aerator cap is optional. The brass weight hitting the exposed leader tube gives an additional click sound. If you use the cap, definitely move it four to six inches forward of the lure face. You can reverse the brass bullet weight on any of the three series of lures, and they will run with a straightforward action. Try different adjustments and have fun!

TKO Lures Magnum Series

TKO Lures proprietor and true artist Jack Farr has been field testing and designing his lures for 25-plus years - and he has come up with a truly crazy-hot lure in the Magnum Series.

Individually handcrafted in the USA, the Magnum Series features a unique, integrated, red, white and blue battery-operated LED strobe light. This strobe produces an appealing reflection throughout the four-inch head, with proven results on the water. An adjustable aerator cap spreads the large bubble trail, giving the head and the top-quality 14-inch skirts added visibility to game fish underwater.

Each lure is keel weighted for pitch stability, and the high/low frequency brass/glass weights are dialed in to sonic perfection for predator fish. In addition, each comes with a scientifically proven daytime color chart that indicates what colors can be best detected by billfish in relation to the sun’s position.

You can’t go wrong with this lure. Pick up the phone and have Jack set you up with your own set. Custom-made lures featuring business logos and boat names are also available.

Danny Coll, Bernie Davis win $25,000 top prize in Drambuie Key West Marlin Tournament

By Susan Cocking scocking@miamiherald.com

Cudjoe Key real estate investor Danny Coll was the only angler in a fleet of 33 boats to release the target species in the three-day Drambuie Key West Marlin Tournament that concluded Saturday, earning the top prize of $25,000 cash.

Coll caught a white marlin during Thursday’s opener aboard his 36-foot Cabo Risky Business trolling a green-and-yellow TKO lure about 42 miles off Marathon. Teammate Bernie Davis of Big Pine Key assisted with the release. It was Coll’s second Drambuie victory; he topped the fleet in 2008. Coll, who has been competing in the tournament for 10 years, said he entered this year’s contest at the last minute because he couldn’t find anyone to accompany him on the boat. But then Davis said he was in, and Coll bought a $69 digital video camera to record all the action - as per tournament rules - and made Davis practice using it.

When their winning fish struck on the tournament’s opening morning, things got chaotic.

"I got this fish on and a few minutes, it’s off," Coll said. "We knew it was a billfish. Then he was back on, swimming toward the boat, then he took off. I told Bernie, ‘Stop filming and help me clear the lines.’ He left the camera on. I was pretty rude to him."

Eventually, Coll got the fish by the bill, unhooked it and let it go. When tournament officials first viewed the video, the footage was so herky-jerky that they couldn’t tell what kind of fish was caught. But looking at it frame-by-frame, they saw the fish was a white marlin. Coll and Davis spend the remaining two days of the tournament looking hard for another marlin, and hoping no one else got one. Some were seen, but none were caught.

"A nail-biter," Coll said.

Well,

We did it again, just won the Key west marlin tournament DRAMBUIE with one of your lures. Read it at MiamiHerald.com. Your lures are in all the papers as I mentioned your company. Call me when you have a moment.

Green scale/chartreuse skirt was the one.

Thanks, Danny Coll

Jack, wanted to let you know on October 22, 2011, I boated a 42lb sailfish on your TKO Grand Slam Smoke Lure with a purple skirt.

Hi Jack,
I have found some guys to fish with here in Palm Beach County. Miller Time Sportfishing. I did get to use your lures a couple weeks ago but all that was biting that day was bonitas. I caught like 8 in two hours so we went bottom fishing and I caught a nice African Pompano.

Going out again soon and the dolphin have shown up now here so I hope to go Saturday
