Illustrating an illusion of feeding frenzies is paramount for successful offshore trolling. Vibration from combined splashing and swimming motions provokes instinctive strikes. Birds create surface illusions at slow to moderate trolling speeds of 10-12 knots. Birds in front of a spreader bar or daisy chain provide a water steering effect. You can fish as a lure with a hook (diagram 1) with or without a skirt, as a teaser with a lure (diagram 2), or as a daisy chain with a lure or a teaser spread (diagram 3).
