Squid Series lures have a 5½” head, with a 1 1/4” diameter, and a 9" silicone skirt. Each TKO Squid lure has a 3D glitter pattern in the lure head. These lures troll at 3-14 knots. You should plan to troll deep - use weight in advance or a plainer. The TKO Squid may be used as a lure, as a teaser, or in a daisy chain with birds or a spreader bar in advance of the lure. Squid Series lures are available in five glitter pattern colors: Purple, Green, Silver, Pink, Chartreuse. For information about which color of lure to use at what time of day, please read my Time & Lure Color page.
Each TKO Squid Lure contains:
High quality water clear resin; an acrylic leader tube, which helps provide a bubble trail within the skirt; a lure head prism covering which produces a stronger 3D silhouette - the reflective glitter effect gives a unique design feature; two eyes that are moveable and internal for a more lifelike appearance; several colored leader beads with colors selected to complement the lure's skirt - the beads produce the clicking sound of predator fish crunching their prey; and a multi-color silicone rubber skirt with a 16-strand metallic semi-split tail that measures 9 inches in length.
Squid Series Tips:
Trolling Squid is the most typical way to locate Tuna. Keep your eyes sharp for signs of Tuna. Keep searching the horizon for diving birds, kelp patches and busting fish. Tuna usually hold in deeper, cooler water just below the thermocline, just under 100 ft deep. Skirted lures in the 6-10 inch range work best.
Time & Lure Color - Purple and green give the best performance in the early morning. Silver is best at high noon. Chartreuse and red in the afternoon. Always include a natural (white) in your spread at all times of day. “Natural” represents a weaker species, thus presenting a greater target.
Presentation is as important as tackle. Position your lure by using flat-line clips. This keeps your line horizontal, closer to the water. This allows the lure to run a little deeper, just under the swells of the wake. Your TKO Squid has been pre-rigged using a basic rigging technique. Beads are extremely important as they produce a clicking sound. One method of making the hook squid or lure stand out or appear different is by setting the hook squid or lure further apart on the daisy chain. The strike zone where rigs will fish best and entice hits behind our boat. Strike zones vary from boat to boat.
