Time & Lure Color

Color is the most important thing about a lure. Bright lures on bright days and dark lures on dark days is a common misconception.

Big game fish patrol at depths of 40-50 feet. They always look upward toward the surface for the next meal, regardless of sky conditions.

The surface always provides a lighter background. Dark colors provide for a silhouette the fish can see at great distances. That is the reason we use a mixture of dark mixed colors in our lure skirts regardless of head color.

Light colors with dark combinations are easily seen by fish on the surface. The vision color of game fish changes in reaction to the position of the sun. This color chart indicates lure colors best detected by game fish in accordance with time of day.
